TESTIMONIAL
The ignite summer programme was a valuable and engaging opportunity to explore a wide range of skills required for certain careers and the challenges faced within different industries. Throughout the programme I participated in various activities designed to broaden my understanding of the working world and develop key skills. As part of the programme, I completed a short survey, explored different career sectors, designed my own game, considered the real-world challenges professionals in different sectors might face. I also learned how to write a professional email or letter to send to different companies.
The entire programme was delivered online with links and QR codes that led to different tasks that where set out in way that was easy to understand and simple to access. I explored careers in areas such as community, civic and equality, health and sports, creative and marketing, cyber, education, environment, culture, lifestyle, science and engineering and communication. For each group I thought about the different jobs and people that will work in the different roles. I then put myself in the shoes of a games designer and created my very own game. I had to think about format of the game (would it be online or in person), how would you win the game and what would my game would be called.
I then went of and researched about my favourite group gathering 5 interesting facts about it. Using my research I identified a real-world challenge and came up with a possible solution that could overcome this. Finally, I found businesses, companies and charities that suited my group and wrote an email or letter to them asking them to create a challenge for the project. The programme provide a helpful example letter to guide me through this task, and I appreciated that the final letter would be sent on my behalf.
Overall, the ignite summer programme helped me learn more about the world of work, develop new skills, and think critically and creatively about future careers.
