what we do in schools

IGNITING THE ENTREPRENEURS OF TOMORROW

 ignite and engagE

At NetWork NotWork (NWNW), we believe every child and young person deserves the chance to thrive, no matter their background. Many of the schools we work with are located in areas facing high levels of economic deprivation, where pupils may have limited access to networks, opportunities, and role models. By working hand-in-hand with teachers, families, and employers, we aim to change this.

We use recognised measures of deprivation, including national indices of multiple deprivation, to prioritise support for the schools and communities that need it most. This ensures that children and young people in disadvantaged areas are given the same chances to dream big and achieve their goals as anyone else.

Our programmes are carefully designed to complement the national curriculum and Gatsby Benchmarks while going far beyond the classroom. Through accredited, gamified learning experiences such as Ignite XP! and Level Up! and creative media programmes such as Junior Journalism we give pupils opportunities to explore the world of work, develop vital skills, and build the confidence they need to take their next steps. Each programme links classroom learning with real-world challenges, helping pupils understand not just “what” they are learning, but “why” it matters for their future. Our unique ‘KNOW’, ‘DEVELOP’ and ‘GROW’ approach to education moves learners from exploratory work to practical application.

A key part of our work with schools is to help them meet their careers education responsibilities, such as the Gatsby Good Career Guidance Benchmarks. By embedding meaningful encounters with employers, workplace experiences, and structured reflection into our programmes, we provide schools with a ready-made, accredited solution that fits seamlessly into their wider curriculum. This gives teachers practical support while also raising aspirations for pupils.

But our work is about much more than employability. We know that children thrive when their wellbeing, confidence, and aspirations are nurtured. That is why every programme includes elements that promote positive mental health, resilience, and inclusion. Pupils take part in creative challenges, teamwork activities, and leadership opportunities that help them see themselves not just as learners, but as future innovators, leaders, and changemakers.

We also believe in the power of community and intergenerational learning. That’s why our programmes encourage families, local businesses and importantly retired individuals to get involved. Whether through mentoring, networking events, or joint learning opportunities, schools become the hub of wider community engagement, where young people can connect with role models and see first-hand how their learning links to the world beyond the classroom.

Every child who takes part in a NWNW programme leaves with more than just new skills. They leave with greater confidence, higher aspirations, and a clearer sense of the opportunities available to them. For some, it may be the first time they have pictured themselves in a professional role, started to plan for higher education, or felt their voice truly matters.

In short, our work with schools is about removing barriers and opening doors. We help teachers deliver high-quality, impactful careers education while giving children the chance to imagine and shape their own future. Together, we are creating a culture where every young person can ROCKET!
